The Austin chapter of the Association for Women in Communications boasts more than 200 members and is the largest chapter per capita in the United States. Hundreds of Austin communicators benefit from Women in Communications? professional development programs. Members represent fields such as marketing, corporate communications, graphic design, public relations, journalism, fundraising, web development, advertising and event planning. The non-profit professional organization champions the advancement of women across all communications disciplines by recognizing excellence, promoting leadership and positioning its members at the forefront of the evolving communications era.

The Austin chapter was organized in September 1929 by women initiated into the campus chapter at the University of Texas at Austin. The charter from the national organization came in 1930. In those early years, the alumni met at two meetings each month for a professional program and information exchange. Today, the Austin chapter is one of the largest and most diverse professional communications organizations in the city.

Since 1989, the chapter has awarded more than $12,000 in scholarships to area communications students.
