The Austin chapter was organized in September 1929 by women initiated into the campus chapter at the University of Texas at Austin. The charter from the national organization came in 1930. In those early years, the alumni met at two meetings each month for a professional program and information exchange. Today, the Austin chapter is one of the largest and most diverse professional communications organizations in the city.
Since 1989, the chapter has awarded more than $12,000 in scholarships to area communications students.
