Founded in 1995, Freelance Austin(previously named the First Tuesday Freelancers' Group) is a spin-off of the local chapter of the Association for Women in Communications (AWC).
Its mission is to offer a casual forum where freelance writers, graphics designers, and other independent communicators can meet, share information and leads, improve their communicating, business, and self-promotion skills, and form bonds of support and camaraderie.
The only requirements for membership are:
active attendance and participation,
an attitude of camaraderie (rather than competition),
a sincere willingness to participate and find useful and creative ways to give to the the group at least as much as you gain from it.
Most meetings are open discussions with an opportunity for attendees to give their "30-second self promotion pitch." Some meetings include a theme, a speaker, or other special presentation. Past meetings have offered topics ranging from sales tax issues to self promotion techniques. Check out the www.freelanceaustin.org for details about the monthly meetings.
Meetings occur the second Wednesday of every month.
